Nursing Program Admission
The online nursing application is now available for both generic and LPN to RN submissions.
Generic student applications are received and reviewed for Fall admissions only. LPN-RN
student applications are received and reviewed for Spring admissions only. All other
required materials such as the OSBI background check, official transcripts, and ATI
TEAS scores should be emailed to Nursing.Program@redlandscc.edu or placed in the mailbox outside of the Nursing and Allied Health office to maintain
social distancing and ensure obtainment of your documents accurately. If you would
like to drop of materials in person, we ask that you contact Nursing.Program@redlandscc.edu via email or phone 405.422.6224 prior to your arrival and schedule a day or time.
This is notification that students have the option to submit application materials
and admission in the program is subject to change based on board approval.
Review the Nursing Admission Requirements for admission policies on Generic Applications, Transfer Applications and LPN-RN Applications. Redlands Community College Nursing Program admits one group or cohort per year. Generic applications are due by March 15 each year for priority admission consideration. (Application remains open until April 15 for late applicants) LPN-RN applications are due by December 1 each year. Transfer applications are reviewed as received. Only the Nursing Admission Application is automatically submitted.
Nursing Program Application Period and Deadlines:
- Generic Fall Admissions (apply between January 1 to March 15 for priority admission
consideration. Application closes April 15.)
Deadline: March 15 by 5 p.m. for priority admission, application closes April 15 at 5 p.m. - LPN-RN Spring Admission (apply between September 1 to December 1)
Deadline: December 1 by 5 p.m.
Applications received outside of the date ranges will not be reviewed until the designated time frames.
The official results of an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) background check must be submitted in person to the Nursing Department or faxed to 405.422.1215.
Admission requirements for the Nursing program vary, depending on if you are in the Generic Nursing track, the LPN to RN track, or are a Transfer student.
In addition to the admission requirements for Redlands Community College, the applicant must submit to the Nursing Department office:
- All college transcripts (photocopy OK) or a high school transcript (photocopy OK) or equivalent if applicant has less than 12 college hours
- Proof of a “C” or higher grade in CHEM 1215 or 1315: General Chemistry with lab, or equivalent course will be accepted up until the Summer of 2024. Effective in the fall of 2024, proof of a “C” or higher grade in CHEM 1214 Survey of General, Organic, and Biochemistry w/Lab , or equivalent course as determined by Department Head of Nursing and Allied Health. CHEM 1215 or 1315: General Chemistry with lab, or equivalent course will no longer be accepted beginning the fall of 2024.
- An overall passing score for the TEAS Nursing Admission test of 70% or higher with a minimum TEAS Reading subscale score of 68% must be taken within one year of the application deadline
- A retention/graduation Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher on academic work completed
- Current (within 3 months) original Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) background check
- Completed the online application to the Nursing Program in addition to the online application to Redlands Community College
- Applications materials must be completed and submitted to the Nursing Department by the deadline published on the Redlands Community College website.
- Applicants who are accepted into the nursing program and who do not enroll in the semester for which they are accepted must reapply.
- Applicants who are accepted into the nursing program will be required to provide evidence of a current (within 1 month) negative urine drug screen and an extended national background check.
- A student with a non-negative Urine Drug Screen (UDS), or who refuses to provide a
UDS, or who has a background check showing a felony arrest will not be admitted or
will be administratively withdrawn from the Nursing Program.
See the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act Rule Chapter 10: Licensure of Practical and Registered Nurses for criminal offenses that may result in the inability to apply for licensure or result in denial for admission into the program.
Students have the option to complete the Petition for Initial Determination of Eligibility for Licensure or Certification through the Oklahoma Board of Nursing to determine your eligibility for licensure. You will be responsible for submitting all required supporting documentation, complete the federal background check, and pay the $95.00 fee for the Initial Determination form which can be accessed at: https://nursing.ok.gov/initialdeterm.pdf. - Prior to acceptance into the Nursing Program, students must submit verification of the following:
- Rubella, Rubeola and Mumps (MMR) immunity
• Must have 2 MMR vaccinations or positive titers. - Varicella immunity
• Must have 2 Varicella vaccinations or positive titers. - Absence of active TB
Current TB skin test or current IGRA (within the past 12 months).
• First-time testers must have two separate screens at least 1 week apart and no farther than 30 days.
• If you have a history of a positive reaction, the following is required:
- Documentation of previous positive reactor
- Negative x-ray report within the last 60 days from the application deadline
- A negative review of symptoms documented by the "Cleared for Public Contact" memo from the health department. (This expires one year from the signed date.)
• A negative screen expires one year within the date of placement/blood draw. Documentation must be renewed annually.
- If your previous test was negative greater than 365 days, you must complete a two-step screening at renewal. - Hepatitis B vaccination, a positive titer or signed waiver
- Tdap vaccination within the last 10 years
- Flu vaccine
• Students admitted in the spring semester must submit proof by the application deadline of December 1.
• Students admitted in the fall semester will be required to obtain the vaccine by October 25 in order to progress in the program and complete clinical rotations. - COVID-19 vaccination
• Upon assignment of your clinical setting you may be required to have the Covid-19 vaccination. We have no control over clinical settings vaccination requirements. - Current BLS CPR Certification Healthcare Providers
• CPR from American Heart Association (AHA) is required - Current (within 3 months) OSBI background check
- Redlands Community College fully subscribes to all principles and requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and ADA 1990 for qualified handicapped individuals. It is important to note that in order to successfully progress through the nursing curriculum and function as a practicing nurse upon graduation, an individual must be able to perform physical activities as identified in Redlands Community College Physical Requirements to Provide Patient Care Policy 2.0.
Students will be required to submit verification of the requirements above with their application via email to Nursing.Program@redlandscc.edu. If materials are brought in person, we ask that you put items in an envelope labeled with a your name and place in the mailbox outside the Nursing and Allied Health office.
NOTE: Failure to submit verification of any of the requirements above will result in an incomplete application and/or denial for admission into the program.
In addition to the admission requirements for Redlands Community College, the applicant must submit to the Nursing Department office:
- Qualified applicants will be admitted based on space availability.
- Admission by LPN-RN direct articulation will be evaluated based on LPN transcript analysis. Applicants with a “C” grade in previous medical-surgical courses will be required to take all Redlands Community College Nursing Program medical-surgical coursework. Applicants with a “B” or higher grade in previous medical-surgical courses MAY be given credit for beginning medical-surgical
- All college transcripts (photocopy OK) or a high school transcript (photocopy OK) or equivalent if applicant has less than 12 college hours
- LPN transcript showing graduation date and grades earned
- Proof of a “C” or higher grade in CHEM 1215 or 1315: General Chemistry with lab, or equivalent course will be accepted up until the Summer of 2024. Effective in the fall of 2024, proof of a “C” or higher grade in CHEM 1214 Survey of General, Organic, and Biochemistry w/Lab , or equivalent course as determined by Department Head of Nursing and Allied Health. CHEM 1215 or 1315: General Chemistry with lab, or equivalent course will no longer be accepted beginning the fall of 2024. Additional courses that require proof of a “C” or higher are College Success, Anatomy w/Lab, English Composition I, Elements of Psychology, Physiology w/ Lab, and English Composition II. LPN-RN applicants who do not have the equivalent of credits for Pharmacology will follow the Generic/Traditional Plan of Study and will be required to complete the Pharmacology course.
- Proof of current unencumbered Oklahoma LPN license
- An overall passing score for the TEAS Nursing Admission test of 70% or higher with a minimum TEAS Reading subscale score of 68% must be taken within one year of the application deadline
- A retention/graduation Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher on academic work completed
- Current (within 3 months) Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) background check
- Completed the online application to the Nursing Program in addition to the online application to Redlands Community College
- Applicant must have completed all prerequisite courses on the 2 year degree advisement plan that all students in the cohort have completed up to the nursing course the LPN-RN direct articulation qualifies to enter.
- Upon satisfactory completion of the above criteria, credit will be recorded with a grade of “pass” and filed with the Office of the Registrar for transcription. Credit earned through direct articulation will be placed on the official transcript only after successful completion of one semester of nursing coursework in Redlands Community College Nursing Program.
- All college credits from other institutions will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine their possible application to the nursing degree requirements of Redlands Community College.
- A minimum grade of “C” is required in all courses necessary for the Associate of Applied Science, Nursing degree.
- Prior to acceptance into the Nursing Program, students must submit verification of the following:
