REDLANDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE ENTERS PARTNERSHIP WITH SAVANNAH STATION TO AID SPECIAL-NEEDS INDIVIDUALS

EL RENO, Okla.— Redlands Community College and Savannah Station Therapeutic Riding Program have agreed to a unique, collaborative partnership that will include a lease of the original Redlands Royse Ranch Arena to the nonprofit organization beginning in October 2016.

According to Savannah Station Executive Director Jack Salkil, the goal of the organization is to provide hope and healing with horses to individuals ages three and above. Special challenges accepted are: amputations, autism, brain injuries, cardiovascular accident/stroke, cerebral palsy, deafness, Down syndrome, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, mental retardation, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Spina Bifida, spinal cord injuries, visual impairment and other highly involved disabilities. Savannah Station is fully certified by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH).

Established in 2013, Savannah Station hopes to increase participation through the agreement with Redlands. The Redlands’ location will be managed by Savannah Station Program Coordinator Mindy Hole, a Redlands’ Equine Studies graduate.

“Our partnership with Savannah Station brings our equine program back to life in a very unique way,” said Redlands President Jack Bryant. “We are proud to help provide this vital service to our community.”

In addition to offering classes for special needs individuals, Savannah Station will also hold workshops and training sessions for volunteers. It is their hope to gain even more community involvement through this partnership.
