Academic Advisor/Student Engagement Specialist for Title IV Student Support Services Grant

Redlands Community College is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Academic Advisor/Student Engagement Specialist for out Title IV Student Support Services (SSS) Grant.  This is a full-time position for a federally funded grant program, reporting to the SSS Project Director. The salary for this position is $42,000 per year with excellent benefits.  This individual will be responsible for providing quality academic advising and coaching for program participants.  Responsibilities include:  Short-term and long-term planning, such as semester enrollment, course recommendations for future semesters, and advisement on transferring to a bachelor’s degree program;  plan and implement student engagement activities (workshops, seminars, cultural experiences and events) to provide academic and social support to a targeted student population facing barriers in completing their degree; and track students’ academic progress and provide interventions when needed, with the goal of increasing retention and graduation rates for participants.  Required Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree is required; a minimum of 2 years’ experience in providing support services to college students from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or students traditionally underrepresented in higher education (preferably in community colleges); knowledge of occupational, career and academic assessment instruments; strong communication and organizational skills; proficiency with computer databases; documented experience in presenting workshops, seminars, small group and individual discussions, and orientation sessions; knowledge of college financial aid programs and application procedures; experience in providing academic counseling, career counseling and disability accommodations for college students; demonstrated ability to work with disadvantaged, at-risk and traditionally under-represented student populations; and a background similar to that of SSS participants.
